We need your help to get more women and girls to make the jump to become more active by celebrating active women and girls across North Tyneside.
This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.
Developed by Sport England, Active North Tyneside want to help overcome the fear of judgement that stops too many women and girls from joining in.
Could you support at least two ladies to become and stay active? We’ll give you lots of support, a free goodie bag and a £20 shopping voucher as a reward.
No matter where, why or with whom you are getting active we’d love to hear from you!
Our next registration event is:
Monday 3th December 6:30pm at Hadrian Leisure Centre St Peters Road Wallsend NE28 7LQ
Tuesday 4th December 9:30am at Howdon Community Centre
Thursday 6th December 6:30pm at The Parks Sports Centre Howdon Road North Shields NE29 6TL

This Girl Can testimonials
“I went along to a meeting about the This Girl Can Community Health Champions programme not really intending to fully participate- maybe a few posts on social media. But, on hearing the low stats on the percentage of women involved in sport/being active against the percentage of men and this not increasing until later in life actually made me quite sad .This coupled with the information and my own knowledge of how beneficial being active is for your mental and physical well being inspired me to get more involved, alongside the fact you and your colleagues are lovely and make you think you can do this!!!”
“The people I have supported in my role as This Girl Can Community Health Champion are still all committed to getting fit and being active. I have brought a couple along to Back to Netball as they have never played since school and wanted to get back involved in a social way rather than league so this was ideal for them. They now attend training and go along and watch Northumbria play as it’s all so accessible now after taking those first steps.”
“I became a this girl can champion as I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and could no longer run so I decided to join a back to netball group . Once joined I felt young again and couldn’t get enough so when the opportunity came along to get other ladies to do the same thing I couldn’t resist . After getting ladies to come along I also came across ladies that were worried about their fitness at netball so I decided to do a small walking group . This allows ladies of all ages and abilities to do some form of exercise and feel great about it without being judged .”
