Bump, Birth, Baby FAQs

When are sessions on?

Details of when each type of session (i.e. Active Mams, Aqua Mams) can be found on the relevant web page for that session type. Each web page also has a link to the latest version of the timetable.

How difficult are the sessions?

Everyone is at different stages in their pre and postnatal exercise journey, so our sessions range from beginner to advanced and the suggested fitness levels for each can be found on the timetable.

  • Beginner = light to moderate exercise (walking, low intensity training, bodyweight moves)

  • Intermediate = moderate to vigorous exercise (a mix of low and high intensity training, introduction of small weights)

  • Advanced = vigorous exercise (high-intensity training, running)

You are always encouraged to take any session at your own pace and our qualified instructors will always offer easier/harder exercise options.

Can my older children attend the sessions?

Unfortunately not. Bump, Birth, Baby sessions are specifically designed for pre and postnatal women and their babies, aged from 0 to 18 months old.

Information on sessions suitable for older children can be found in the ‘Active Kids’ section of our website.

Do I need an easecard to attend?

Yes, all participants must have a valid easecard. If you do not have one, and you are a resident of North Tyneside, you can get an easecard free of charge from our leisure centres by quoting “Bump, Birth, Baby easecard” at reception.

I’m not a resident of North Tyneside, can I attend?

These sessions are only available to residents of North Tyneside with a valid easecard.

How soon after giving birth can I attend sessions?

While there is no set timescale on returning to exercise, we usually recommend returning after receiving clearance from your GP at the 6-8 week postnatal check up.

Remember; it is important to listen to your body and return to exercise at your own pace.

Do I need to book?

Aqua Mams and Postnatal Pilates sessions require weekly booking. This can be done up to 8 days in advance via Tynemouth Pool and The Lakeside Centre reception teams.

Active Mams and Bumps and Buggies Walk sessions are drop in and do not require booking. However, when attending a session at a North Tyneside leisure centre (The Parks or Waves) you must swipe your easecard at reception and hand the receipt to the instructor.

Do babies need to be in a buggy / pram?

For Active Mams and Bumps and Buggies Walk sessions, we recommend that babies come in a buggy or a pram so you can use it in the session.

For Postnatal Pilates, we recommend bringing a blanket for your baby to lie on during the session. Babies up to pre-crawl stage can attend this session.

Are classes on in the school holidays?

The only session on during the school holidays is the Active Mams at Waves. All other Bump, Birth, Baby sessions are term time only.

Can I bring my dog to outdoor sessions?

No, we do not allow dogs or other animals to attend any of our sessions.
