Introducing The Kit Hub: encouraging upcycling and swapping unwanted active wear

In recent months, we have been collecting and taking care of unwanted and donated active wear.

To help tackle the climate emergency and give access to active wear to those who aren’t able to buy new, The Kit Hub is a resource where you can visit to donate, take, or swap items of clothing for children, young people and adults suitable for physical activity; from leggings and joggers to vests and hoodys!

This project means lots of clothes – whether the person donating doesn’t need them or doesn’t fit into them anymore – can be upcycled and used again by others.

This helps the environment by saving on water wastage from clothes production and the impact of fast fashion (the textile industry uses 32 million Olympic swimming pools’ worth of water per year and accounts for 20% of the world’s water pollution!) It also saves money and means other people have appropriate clothing to feel good and get active.

You can access The Kit Hub at The Cedarwood Trust in North Shields (NE29 7QT) between 9.30am and 11am on:

  • Wednesday 9 November 2022

  • Wednesday 23 November 2022

  • Wednesday 7 December 2022

  • Wednesday 21 December 2022

Small numbers of items will also be taken to some of our Active North Tyneside sessions.

If you have any items you’d like to donate to The Kit Hub, you can do so at North Tyneside leisure centres, or North Tyneside Council offices on Cobalt Business Park.
