Healthy4Life participants end 2022 on a high!

Between September and December 2022 a group of families got together at The Parks Sports Centre after school once a week to learn how to navigate healthy eating and try different ways to be physically active.

The Healthy4Life programme is delivered over 10 weeks by the Active North Tyneside team and is all about making healthy habits and learning how to live a healthier lifestyle. From understanding food labels to help families choose a better breakfast cereal to encouraging them to walk or cycle to school twice a week as a way to hit the WHO guidelines, the programme encourages those attending to make small but manageable changes that add up to make a big difference!

One family who attended was parent Ashiya who learned a lot, including the importance of staying hydrated with child Humza.

Ashiya said: “We found Healthy4Life very useful, hearing other parents and relating to one another is helpful.

“We’ve learnt about portion sizes and making sure Humza eats the correct amount for his age, different recipes and swaps we can make, taking Humza shopping with me has been an eye opener!”

Parent Jordan also attended and was complimentary about how relaxed the sessions were, “It didn’t feel like a classroom environment, we’ve both tried foods we would never have tried without coming on the programme.”

Jordan’s child Luke now eats healthier foods and they both found the sessions worth the commitment, “I found I really enjoyed going to the gym and I will be keeping it up into 2023.”

Healthy4Life is back in 2023, with two programmes starting in mid-January at:

  • The Lakeside Centre, 4.15pm-6.15pm every Tuesday (from 17 January 2023)

  • The Parks Sports Centre, 4.15pm-6.15pm every Wednesday (from 18 January 2023)
